Digital Empowerment for Kangemi Youth
When I first walked into Kangemi Vocational Centre, I didn’t know what to expect. Kangemi sits right on the edge of Westlands, yet it couldn’t be more different. One side
We started FREE Academy with one goal; make digital skills accessible to the young visionary with no cash, no connections, just raw ambition. Over 2,745 students have taken our free courses. Another 860 are active in our WhatsApp community, asking questions, sharing wins, and building each other up.
But we’re not stopping there.
We’re now opening the doors for young creators, trainers, and skilled professionals to teach and earn through the same platform on a revenue share model that empowers youth to become educators, not just students. They build the course and we handle the tech. They then earn every time someone purchases their course.
It’s a full-circle model. The underprivileged learn for free from YouTube aggregated course and volunteer instructors and those that want to upgrade their skills can purchase paid courses from other instructors. This then ensures that underprivileged youth learn for free, educators earn from their skill and we are sustainable.
Training is not enough. Free courses are great. Mentorship is powerful. But at the end of the day, young people need income. They need dignity. They need a shot.
That’s why we’re building the Digital Moran Agency a platform that connects our trained and mentored youth to real, meaningful work. Think of it as an African Upwork but built for the village boy who learned to code in a dusty cyber café, or the young mother who taught herself design on a cracked phone.
We’re creating a system where opportunity meets talent. A space where brands, businesses, and organizations can hire skilled youth we’ve walked with not just because it’s charity, but because they’re damn good at what they do.
The platform is still under construction, but the vision is clear: Learn on FREE Academy. Get mentored. Build a portfolio. Then step into the Digital Moran Agency and start earning. The system will have an escrow system where we will protect both buyers and sellers and we will pay the Morans on a revenue share model.
This is about restoring hope, one gig at a time.
We have conducted youth empowerment sessions across villages, towns, and informal settlements focusing on mindset change, digital skills, and practical opportunities that help young people believe in themselves and build a better future.
